Kickstarter

What I've Learned So Far

Setting up the Kickstarter for After the Party was a huge learning experience. I’ve been putting in a couple of hours a day for the past few weeks getting it all organized. Why go to all this trouble?

First, Kickstarter has its own audience. People who are interested in backing all kinds of projects go there to browse. When I put “Jewish” as a search term, I can see who else is running a similar project—and hope that those backers will check out mine as well. This broadens my audience beyond my friends, family and newsletter subscribers.

Second, I would love to create a beautifully designed color edition of this book. I have a lot of experience with teens and books, and I know an engaging layout can encourage reading.

But I’ve already committed over a thousand dollars to this project for editing, cover design, and expert guidance. (Not to mention the endless hours of research and writing!)

I don’t want to spend another thousand dollars on layout if there isn’t enough interest. My regular formatter can put it together in black and white for a lot less money.

So we’ll see. I’ve been approached by several companies to help with the outreach— hard to tell right now which are scammers.

New Short Story Alert

In Dog Bless You, Rochester discovers DeAndre Dawson’s body at Friar Lake. While investigating, Steve and Rochester meet DeAndre’s teen half-brother, Ka’Tar Winston. Ka’Tar’s mother gave him a Star Trek name because the fingers on his left hand are fused together in a Vulcan salute.

Ka’Tar beat the odds and is enrolled at Eastern—but a boy in his New York building has implicated him in a drive-by theft. He could lose his scholarship and his chance out of the projects. Steve knows Ka’Tar can’t drive because of his hand, so he and Rochester jump in to save him. “A Dog of Justice” is in this week’s Black Cat Weekly.

The Big Race released last week, and already has 6 ratings and two great reviews.

“I definitely recommend this story. I have never read one quite like it before.”

“Such a fan of the Mahu series and Bodyguard books!! Mr. Plakcy does romance and adventure again!”

I’ve already done the first draft of another second-chance romance that combines love and action/adventure, set in the world of Formula 1 racing. Hope to have that out late this year or early next year.

The Big Race

Over the next weeks, I’m trading newsletter mentions with some other authors who work I enjoy, to get publicity for The Big Race. I’m starting with fellow Floridian Casey Morales and his new book, Fighting the Flames Within.

What started as a professional ride-along ignited into scorching chemistry neither of us could resist. From bowling dates to steamy kitchen encounters, Dane showed me there's more than one way to handle a hose!

Fighting the Flames Within is a slow-burn, laugh-out-loud, hurt/comfort romance with a guaranteed HEA—because some sparks are worth fanning into a blaze.

I met Hank Edwards at GRL, the gathering of fans for the gay romance genre, a few years ago, and I really enjoy his fun, flirty romances.

Some crushes are worth the wait, even if they’re howlingly complicated.

Trick or Treat Temptation is a heartwarming, slow-burn romance featuring childhood crushes on a best friend’s brother, awkward family dynamics, a costume contest, and two men discovering that the perfect time to fall in love might just be during the spookiest season of all.

With love and gratitude— bye!
